Studio Membership Terms and Conditions

1. About Studio membership

The Anna Freud Centre, trading as Anna Freud is the registered entity. Income from our training, conferences, events and membership products helps to fund our work supporting children, young people, families and the professionals who work with them.

These terms and conditions apply to registrations for and purchases of Studio access ("Membership"), provided by Anna Freud ("we", "us", "our"). Studio is available through different access levels, including free access and paid membership options, as described on the Studio website.

For the purposes of these terms and conditions, all individuals registered to access Studio are referred to as "Members", regardless of the access level selected. References to "Membership" include both free and paid Studio access unless otherwise stated.

“Customer” means the individual or organisation that purchases or registers for Membership.

“Member” means an individual authorised to access or use Membership.

“Consumer” means a Customer who is an individual acting for purposes wholly or mainly outside their trade, business, craft, or profession.

“Business Customer” means any Customer who is not a Consumer, including an organisation purchasing Membership for one or more Members.

Submitting an order or registration is an offer to obtain Membership. A contract is formed when we send the Customer confirmation that their order or registration has been accepted. Each Member’s access to and use of Membership is conditional on compliance with the provisions of these terms applicable to Members.

2. Membership period

2.1. Studio membership is valid for the period stated at the point of registration or purchase.

2.2. Unless otherwise stated, membership access begins from the date confirmed in your booking or welcome email. Where a Consumer’s access begins during the 14-day cancellation period, clause 6 will apply.

2.3. Membership benefits must be used within the active membership period and cannot be carried over after expiry unless we confirm otherwise in writing.

3. What is included

3.1. Studio Membership benefits and content vary depending on the access level selected. Depending on the applicable access level, Membership may include some or all of the following:

  • live online sessions, webinars or learning events;

  • recordings or on-demand content;

  • downloadable resources;

  • curated guidance, tools or templates;

  • member communications and updates;

  • member-only opportunities, offers or discounts;

  • access to a learning platform, online community or digital resource area.

3.2. The content, benefits and features available through each Studio access level will be set out on the Studio website, registration page or booking page at the time of registration or purchase.

3.3. Some content, events, resources, discounts and features may be available only to Members registered for specific access levels. We reserve the right to determine which benefits are available under each access level and to update those benefits in accordance with clause 8.

3.4. We may make reasonable changes to Membership benefits in accordance with clause 8.

3.5. Membership does not guarantee access to all Anna Freud training, conferences or events unless these are expressly included in the membership package.

4. Payment

This clause applies only to paid Membership access levels.

4.1. The Customer must pay the Membership fee in full within the timeframe stated at the point of purchase.

4.2. If payment is not received by the due date, we reserve the right to suspend or withhold the relevant Member’s access until payment is received.

4.3. Where Membership is purchased by an organisation for one or more Members, that organisation is responsible for payment and for ensuring that those Members comply with the provisions of these terms applicable to Members.

4.4. Prices payable by Consumers include VAT where applicable. Prices payable by Business Customers are exclusive of VAT unless stated otherwise. All prices will be set out at the point of purchase.

4.5. Any voucher codes, discounts or promotional offers are valid only in accordance with the terms issued with them. They are non-transferable unless we confirm otherwise in writing.

5. Individual Membership access

5.1. Membership access is provided only to the Member identified at the point of registration or purchase and is non-transferable.

5.2. A Member must not share their Membership access with any other person.

5.3. Login details, access links, resources, recordings and Member-only content must not be shared with any other person, except where expressly permitted under these terms.

5.4. We reserve the right to suspend or cancel access if we reasonably believe that Membership access is being misused, shared inappropriately or used outside the agreed terms.

6. Cancellation by the Customer

This clause applies only where a Membership fee has been paid.

6.1. If you are a Consumer and purchase Membership online, by telephone, by email or otherwise enter into a distance or off-premises contract, you have the right to cancel the contract within 14 days after the date on which the contract is formed, without giving any reason.

6.2. In addition to your statutory rights, we allow a Consumer to cancel Membership within the period stated in clause 6.1 and receive a full refund of all Membership fees paid, even if the Consumer has accessed Membership content, attended a live session or otherwise used Membership during that period.

6.3. If you choose to receive Membership services or digital content during the 14-day cancellation period described in clause 6.1, we will ask you during the sign-up process to:

(i) expressly request that Membership services begin during that period;

(ii) expressly consent to digital content being supplied during that period; and

(iii) acknowledge that your statutory right to cancel the relevant digital content will be lost when its supply begins.

We will confirm your request, consent and acknowledgment in your booking or welcome email. None of these matters affects the additional cancellation and full refund right given under clause 6.2.

Cancellation by Consumers.

6.4. To exercise your cancellation right, you must tell us clearly that you wish to cancel before the cancellation period expires. You may do so by contacting us using the details in clause 21.

6.5. If you validly cancel during the cancellation period, we will refund the Membership fees paid without undue delay and no later than 14 days after the date on which you tell us that you wish to cancel. We will use the same payment method that you used to make the original payment unless we agree otherwise. We will not charge you a fee for making the refund.

Cancellation by Business Customers

6.6. A Business Customer does not have a statutory 14-day cooling-off right. Unless a cancellation right is stated at the point of purchase or we agree otherwise in writing, a Business Customer may not cancel Membership after the contract has been formed and the Membership fee will be non-refundable.

General cancellation

6.7. After any applicable cancellation period has expired, Membership fees are non-refundable unless otherwise stated in these terms, agreed by us in writing or required by applicable law.

6.8. Non-attendance at live sessions, failure to access Membership resources or limited use of Membership will not entitle the Customer to a refund.

6.9. Nothing in this clause affects any right to a refund, price reduction, repeat performance, or other remedy arising because Membership has not been provided in accordance with these terms or applicable law.

7. Auto-renewal

This clause applies only to Membership access levels that are offered on a paid subscription basis.

7.1. Studio Membership renews automatically at the end of each Membership period unless it is cancelled in accordance with this clause.

7.2. The initial Membership period, renewal period, renewal date, renewal price, or the method by which the renewal price is calculated, and the available cancellation methods will be set out at the point of purchase or in your booking confirmation. You should review these details carefully before purchasing Studio Membership.

Consumers

7.3. If you are a Consumer, you may cancel automatic renewal at any time before the renewal date. If you do so, Membership will not renew at the end of the current Membership period.

7.4. We will provide Consumers with a straightforward method of cancelling automatic renewal. Where Membership was purchased online, Consumers can cancel their subscription through their Studio account. Cancelling automatic renewal will stop future payments, but access will normally continue until the end of the current paid Membership period.

7.5. We will send Consumers any renewal reminders, renewal information, cooling-off notices or other notices required by applicable law.

7.6. Where applicable law gives a Consumer a right to cancel after Membership has renewed, including any statutory renewal cooling-off right, we will provide information about that right and any refund due will be calculated and paid in accordance with applicable law.

Business Customers

7.7. If you are a Business Customer, you must cancel automatic renewal at least 14 days before the renewal date. If you cancel less than 14 days before the renewal date, Membership will renew for the next Membership period and the cancellation will take effect at the end of that renewed period, unless we agree otherwise in writing.

Changes on renewal

7.8. Renewal prices, benefits and terms may differ from those applying during the current Membership period. We will notify the Customer of any material changes sufficiently before the renewal date to give the Customer a reasonable opportunity to cancel automatic renewal.

7.9. A renewed Membership will be subject to the Membership benefits, price and terms notified to the Customer for that renewal.

Effect of cancellation

7.10. Cancellation under this clause prevents a future renewal but does not end the current Membership period. Unless a statutory cancellation right applies or we agree otherwise, Members may continue to access and use Membership benefits until the end of the current Membership period, after which access will end.

7.11. Cancellation of automatic renewal does not entitle the Customer to a refund for the current Membership period, except where a refund is required under clause 6, another provision of these terms or applicable law.

8. Cancellation or changes by us

8.1. We reserve the right to make reasonable changes to Studio Membership, including changes to content, speakers, session dates, resources, delivery format, platform access or membership benefits, and cancelling, postponing or rescheduling live sessions.

8.2. We will aim to give members as much notice as reasonably possible of any significant changes.

8.3. Where we make a change to, cancel, postpone, or reschedule a live session, we will, where reasonably possible, provide an alternative date, recording, replacement session or other suitable alternative. Changes to individual live sessions will not entitle a Member to a refund, as Membership includes access to a range of content, resources, events and benefits. Nothing in this clause affects any rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.

9. Access to online sessions and digital content

9.1. Studio Membership may include live online sessions and/or digital content hosted on third-party platforms.

9.2. The Member is responsible for ensuring that you have suitable internet access, equipment and software to access the Membership.

9.3. We are not responsible for access issues caused by your own technology, network restrictions, firewalls, employer IT policies, or device settings.

9.4. We may record live sessions for training, educational, quality assurance, safeguarding, internal review, accessibility and/or member access purposes. Where a live session is recorded, we will take reasonable steps to notify participants. This may be done before or at the start of the session, through the booking information, on the Membership platform, or by other reasonable means.

9.5. Recordings may capture participant names, profile images, voices, video images, questions, comments, chat contributions, and other information shared during the session. If you do not wish to appear in a recording, you should keep your camera switched off and avoid sharing identifiable information in the chat or Q&A that could identify you or another person.

9.6. Members must not disclose during a live session, or through any Studio platform or community space, confidential, sensitive, personal or identifiable information relating to any child, young person, family, service user or other third party. Any case example must be sufficiently anonymised so that no individual can reasonably be identified, directly or indirectly. Each Member is responsible for ensuring that any information they share is disclosed lawfully and in accordance with their professional obligations and their organisation’s policies.

9.7. Members must not record, screenshot, copy, download, reproduce, distribute, publish or share live sessions, recordings, chat content, Q&A content, platform content, or other Studio materials unless we have expressly permitted this in writing.

10. Member code of conduct

10.1. We are committed to providing a safe, respectful and inclusive and professional learning environment. This Code applies to participation in Studio, including the learning platform, community spaces, live sessions, webinars, comments, messages and other member interactions.

10.2. Members are expected to:

a. communicate respectfully, professionally and constructively;

b. respect different identities, backgrounds, roles, experiences and professional perspectives;

c. disagree with ideas without attacking, intimidating, humiliating or discriminating against individuals or groups;

d. respect other members’ privacy, confidentiality and personal boundaries;

e. keep contributions relevant to the professional learning purpose of Studio and follow reasonable instructions from Anna Freud staff, facilitators and moderators; and

f. use Studio responsibly and lawfully.

10.3. Open discussion and differing professional views are welcome. However, members must not post or share content, or behave in a way that is abusive, threatening, discriminatory, harassing, deliberately disruptive, unlawful or reasonably likely to cause harm. Unsolicited advertising, promotion or repeated unwanted contact is also not permitted.

10.4. Studio discussions may involve sensitive subjects and professional examples. Members must not share information that identifies, or could reasonably identify, a child, young person, family member, client, service user, colleague or other individual without appropriate authority. Any practice examples should be appropriately anonymised. Safeguarding and wellbeing matters are addressed further in clause 11.

10.5. Members should report concerns about conduct or content to the Studio team at [email protected] or through any reporting tools made available within Studio. Anna Freud may moderate, remove or restrict content or participation where reasonably necessary to maintain a safe and appropriate learning environment.

10.6. We reserve the right to remove or suspend a member from a live session, online platform, community space or Membership if we reasonably believe their behaviour is inappropriate, disruptive, discriminatory, abusive, offensive or in breach of these terms.

10.7. We may suspend or remove a Member or terminate the affected Membership, without refund where that Member seriously or repeatedly breaches these terms or our code of conduct subject to any rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.

11. Safeguarding and wellbeing

11.1. Studio Membership is intended for professional learning and development. It is not a crisis, clinical, therapeutic, or safeguarding advice service.

11.2. Studio content is provided for general information and learning purposes only. It should not be treated as case-specific advice or relied on as a substitute for professional judgement, supervision, legal advice, clinical advice, safeguarding advice or your organisation’s policies and procedures. Members remain responsible for following their own organisation’s safeguarding policies, professional duties and escalation routes.

11.3. If you are concerned about the immediate safety or wellbeing of a child, young person or adult, you should follow your organisations safeguarding procedures and contact the appropriate emergency or safeguarding services.

11.4. Studio content may include discussion of mental health, trauma, distress or related topics. Members are encouraged to take care of their own wellbeing and step away from content or sessions if needed.

11.5. If a safeguarding, confidentiality, privacy or wellbeing concern arises during a Studio session or membership activity, we may take any action we consider appropriate in the circumstances. This may include pausing or ending a discussion, removing or editing content, contacting a participant or purchasing organisation, signposting to appropriate support, escalating the concern internally, reporting concerns to appropriate authorities where required or permitted, or suspending access while the matter is reviewed.

12. Intellectual property and licence to use Studio content

12.1. All Studio Membership content, including resources, slides, recordings, templates, text, images, videos, audio, graphics, tools, platform content, and other materials, belongs to Anna Freud, its licensors or other third-party rights holders, unless otherwise stated.

12.2. Licence to use content
Subject to these terms and conditions, we grant each Member a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable and non-sublicensable licence to access and use Studio content during the Membership period solely for their personal professional learning.

12.3. Members must not copy, reproduce, adapt, publish, sell, license, distribute, upload, share or otherwise make Studio content available to others, except as expressly permitted under clause 12.4 or with our prior written permission.

12.4. Permitted adaptation of resources
Where we expressly identify a template, tool, worksheet, framework or resource as being available for practical use, a Member may adapt, customise and use that resource within their own professional practice or organisation, provided that:

  • the resource, or any adapted version of it, is not sold, licensed, published, shared externally or commercially exploited;

  • Anna Freud's intellectual property rights remain acknowledged where requested;

  • the adapted resource is not presented as your own original work.

12.5. Where different usage rights apply to a specific resource, recording or item of content, those rights will be stated on the resource itself or on the Studio platform.

12.6. Nothing in these terms transfers ownership of any intellectual property rights to a Customer, Member or Member’s organisation.

13. Use of resources and professional responsibility

13.1. Studio resources and sessions are provided for general professional development, education, and information purposes.

13.2. Content should not be treated as legal, clinical, medical, therapeutic, safeguarding, or professional supervision advice.

13.3. Members are responsible for deciding whether and how to apply learning appropriately within their own role, professional context, organisational policies, and applicable law or guidance.

13.4. We do not guarantee that participation in Studio Membership will lead to any particular professional outcome, accreditation, qualification, organisational improvement, or service result unless expressly stated.

13.5. Nothing in Studio Membership creates a professional adviser, clinician, supervisor, therapist, safeguarding lead, or similar relationship between Anna Freud and any member or organisation, or any child, young person, family member or service user connected with them.

14. Data protection

14.1. We are the data controller of any personal data collected or processed in connection with the provision of Studio under these Terms. We shall comply with our obligations as controller under UK Data Protection Legislation in respect of such personal data.

14.2. We shall process personal data only for the purposes described in its privacy policy and as necessary to provide access to Studio, and shall not process personal data for any purpose incompatible with those purposes without providing further notice to, or (where required) obtaining consent from, the individual concerned.

14.3. We will implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to ensure an adequate level of security, taking into account the nature, scope, context, and purposes of processing.

14.4. We will not retain personal data for longer than is necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, in accordance with our data retention policy, and shall securely delete or anonymise personal data once it is no longer required.

14.5. Processors and third parties. Where we engage a third party to process personal data on its behalf, we shall enter into a written contract with that processor.

14.6. Personal data breach. We shall notify the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) of any personal data breach that reaches the required threshold, and shall notify affected individuals where necessary.

15. Accessibility and reasonable adjustments

15.1. We aim to make Studio Membership as accessible and inclusive as reasonably possible.

15.2. If a Member requires adjustments to access live sessions, resources or the Membership platform, please contact us as early as possible.

15.3. We will consider reasonable adjustment requests and do our best to support access, although some requests may depend on platform functionality or delivery constraints.

15.4. Further information about the accessibility of Studio is available in our Accessibility Statement on our website: Accessibility | Anna Freud.

16. Availability of the Membership platform

16.1. We will take reasonable steps to ensure that any Studio Membership platform or online resource area is available during the membership period.

16.2. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access. Access may be affected by planned maintenance, technical issues, third-party platform outages or circumstances outside our control.

16.3. We will aim to resolve access issues as soon as reasonably possible.

16.4. Nothing in this clause 16 affects a Consumer’s statutory rights where digital content or services do not conform to these terms.

17. Liability

17.1. Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for (i) death or personal injury caused by our negligence, (ii) fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or (iii) any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

17.2. Subject to clause 17.1, we will not be responsible for any loss or damage to the extent that it (i) was not reasonably foreseeable when the contract was formed, (ii) was not caused by our breach of these terms or negligence on our part, (iii) was caused or contributed to by a failure of the Customer or a Member to comply with these terms or any reasonable instructions relating to access to or use of Studio Membership, or (iv) results from circumstances outside our reasonable control.

17.3. Studio Membership is provided for the purposes described in clause 13 and does not constitute advice tailored to any particular circumstances. Subject to clause 17.1, and any applicable Consumer rights, we will not be responsible for any loss to the extent caused by, (i) a Customer or Member treating Studio content or sessions as legal, clinical, medical, therapeutic, safeguarding or professional supervision advice, (ii) a Member applying or using Studio content in their professional practice, organisation, service delivery or decision-making without exercising appropriate professional judgement, or (iii) a Customer or Member failing to comply with applicable law, professional duties, guidance, or your organisation’s policies and procedures.

17.4. If you are a Consumer, nothing in these terms excludes or limits your statutory rights, including your rights to services provided with reasonable care and skill, conforming digital content and, where applicable, a refund, price reduction, repeat performance, or other statutory remedy. Subject to those rights, we will not be responsible for losses arising from any trade, business, or professional activity.

17.5. Subject to clause 17.1, we are not liable to a Business Customer for (i) any indirect or consequential loss; or (ii) whether direct or indirect, any loss of income, profit, revenue, business, contracts, opportunity, anticipated savings, goodwill, reputation, or data.

17.6. Subject to clause 17.1, our total aggregate liability to a Business Customer arising out of or in connection with Membership, whether in contract, tort (including negligence), breach of statutory duty, or otherwise, will not exceed the Membership fees paid or payable by that Business Customer for the Membership period in which the event giving rise to liability occurred.

18. Breach of terms

18.1. We may suspend or terminate a Member’s access if we reasonably believe that the Member has breached a provision of these terms applicable to Members. We may suspend or terminate Membership where the Customer is in breach of these terms.

18.2. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • sharing login details or member-only content without permission;

  • inappropriate behaviour towards staff, speakers or members;

  • misuse of Studio resources;

  • non-payment of membership fees or other amount due;

  • breach of intellectual property rights or permitted use restrictions;

  • breach of confidentiality or privacy requirements;

  • use of the membership for unlawful or harmful purposes;

  • any other serious or repeated breach of these terms.

18.3. Where membership is terminated because of a serious breach by the Customer or Member, no refund will be provided except where required by applicable law.

19. Changes to these terms

19.1. We may update these terms from time to time.

19.2. The terms in force when Membership is purchased will apply throughout that Membership period. We may make changes during the Membership period where required by law or where reasonably necessary for safety, security or the effective operation of Studio, provided that the change does not materially reduce the Membership benefits.

19.3. We will notify Customers and affected Members of any material change. Updated terms may apply to a subsequent renewal of Membership.

20. Governing law

20.1. These terms and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them or Studio Membership are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

20.2. Consumers. If you are a Consumer, clause 20.1 does not deprive you of any mandatory legal protection available under the law of the country in which you live.

20.3. A Consumer may bring proceedings in the courts of England and Wales or in the courts of the part of the United Kingdom in which they live. We may bring proceedings against a Consumer only in the courts having jurisdiction under applicable law.

20.4. Business Customers. If you are a Business Customer, the courts of England and Wales will have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with these terms or Studio Membership.
